USC tight ends assistant Keary Colbert, the one-time Trojan career receptions record holder, is stepping down to pursue a return to a playing career in the NFL.
"After spending a year working with the tight ends at USC as a graduate assistant, it ignited my passion and fire to compete at the highest level," said Colbert. "I've been training and getting myself physically prepared to make a comeback in the NFL. I plan to be a great veteran addition to any team's wide receiver corps."
Colbert was a 4-year (2000-03) starter at USC, setting the since-broken Trojan all-time receptions record (207) while gaining 2,964 receiving yards and catching 19 touchdown passes. He captained USC's 2003 national championship team.
