USC senior Zsofia Erdelyi won the women's half marathon race at the 27th annual Long Beach International City Bank Marathon, Half-Marathon, 26.2 Bike Tour and the Run Forrest Run 5K. held on Sunday, Oct. 9 in Long Beach, Calif. Erdelyi finished the 13.1 mile half marathon race which featured 6,299 female runners in 1:16:59, four seconds ahead of Andrea North.
Erdelyi has exhausted her cross country eligibility at USC and is training in the fall in preparation of her senior season of track and field at USC, with an ultimate goal of competing for her native Hungary in the marathon at the 2012 Olympics.
Erdelyi was bothered by stomach pain early in the 2011 track season and competed in three races before she had surgery to remove a cyst which ended her season. USC appealed to the NCAA for a medical redshirt season for the senior which was granted.
Erdelyi is the USC record holder in the 5,000m (16:00.11), 10,000m (33:18.75) and the 3,000m steeplechase (10:01.99), as well as the Trojans' all-time leader in the cross country 5K with time of 16:51.90.
This summer Erdelyi won the Hungarian national steeplechase title with a time of 10:27.84. She is expected to compete this year in the 5,000m and 10,000m races for USC.
