After watching highlights from the TV broadcast of the season opener, the coaches then shared with the players the truths -- both the positives (+) and negatives (-) -- from the game in all facets:
Offense
+ 620 total yards
+ 278 yards through the air on 82% passing
+ Offensive line paved the way for 342 rushing yards, allowed just one sack and hustled downfield on every play
+ 6-for-6 with 6 touchdowns in the red zone
+ 1-for-1 on fourth down
+ Great effort and physicality
- 3 fumbles, 2 lost
- Third-down conversion just 32%
Defense
+ 16 tackles for loss
+ 5 sacks
+ Allowed just 9 rushing yards
+ Josh Pinkard and Chris Galippo especially stood out
+ Freshmen Devon Kennard and Jarvis Jones "showed they can go out there and play," Coach Carroll said
+ Nick Perry had two sacks
- Tackling needs to improve
Special teams
+ Average starting field position after kickoffs was 10 yards better than San Jose State (32- to 22-yard line)
+ Garrett Green led the team with three tackles on special teams
