Just before the practice-ending team period, Coach Carroll called the players together for an unusual mid-workout meeting before setting a scenario for the last segment of the day. He told the players they were down, 17-3, at halftime and needed to turn things around in the second half -- one play at a time.
"That doesn't mean anything because you can't do anything about it," he told the players. "It's about what you're going to do next."
The team responded with a sharp 24-play period to close out the full-pads practice, leading to Carroll's final lesson of the day.
"There will be situations where you have to turn a football game around," he said in the post-practice huddle. "It's got to come from within, just one play at a time -- there's no mystery to it."
