RipsIt reader Jose Reyes sent in a question about coaches' attire on sidelines: "I've noticed that during home games, coach wears an away color polo while the other coaches wear home colors, and at away games it's the opposite. Is there any special reason for that? Does coach have a superstition?"
All coaches wear the opposite-colored polos from the players' jerseys to stand out and give players an easy visual reference point when looking to the sideline for signals and instruction during the game. So for home games, when the players are in cardinal, coaches wear white, and vice versa for road games. Support staffers -- medical, equipment and strength personnel -- wear the same color as the players on sidelines.
So, it has nothing to do with superstition and everything to do with practicality and strategy.
