Listening to the suggestion of some fellow kickers, Houston is wearing a cleat on his right kicking foot that's a full size smaller than his left foot, as he tries out a new equipment strategy during Fall Camp this year. Houston is now going with a size-8.5 cleat on his kicking foot and a 9.5 on his left foot to follow along with what most kickers do for comfort and to cut down on resistance.
While his foot is not nearly as restricted as fellow kicker Jordan Congdon, who wears a 7.5 on his kicking foot -- two sizes smaller than his left foot -- Houston said it'll take some time to become accustomed to it.
"It's tight enough for your foot to feel cramped," said Houston, who's entering his redshirt junior season. "I'm getting used to it."

Trying something new this fall, kicker Joe Houston is wearing a size-8.5 cleat on his right kicking foot (all black shoe) and a size-9.5 cleat on his left foot.
