Fresh off Monday night's scrimmage, coaches are sharing their thoughts on what the team did right and how it can improve during meetings this morning, just like they do on the first day of meetings after a game.
"Always after we play, we want to get to the truth of what happened so we're all on the same page," Coach Carroll said in the recently concluded team meeting.
And the truth from Monday's scrimmage? According to Carroll after breaking down the film, it was a lot of positives:
- Defense: "The defense played lights out."
- Offensive line: "In all our years here, I don't think we've ever been better upfront."
- Running backs: "You guys are a force now. You've got speed, power, everything."
- Special teams: "Is the improvement obvious or not? It's so cool and we're just getting started."
- Defensive backfield: "This is as good a group as we've ever had. All night long, the quarterbacks were looking but couldn't find anyone open."
- Low offensive turnovers: Only turnover of the day (a Joe McKnight fumble) should have been reversed since the replay showed the ground caused the fumble.
- Individual offensive players who shined: Jeff Byers, Allen Bradford, Joe McKnight, De'Von Flournoy, David Ausberry
- Individual defensive players who shined: Christian Tupou, Jurrell Casey, Malik Jackson, Taylor Mays, Rob Erickson
Overall, the coaches were very impressed with the performance -- but they're not satisfied.
"I'm fired up with where we're going right now," Carroll told the players. "But we want you to take where we are and go to the next level. What we just did doesn't mean a thing -- it's what we're going to do next.
"This is a really good start but we're going to keep stepping, keep pushing, keep marching."
