Everyone's talking about the Trojans' difficult road schedule this season, as they face several marquee opponents away from home. But what about their brutal travel schedule that goes along with that challenging road slate?
For its six away games this fall, USC will fly to Ohio, Indiana and all up and down the Pacific coast, logging an incredible amount of miles. The Trojans will fly 12,404 total roundtrip air miles this season, up 34 percent from last year's 9,196 air miles. A nearly 4,000-mile roundtrip to Ohio State and a 3,500-mile roundtrip to Notre Dame will do that to you.
The circumference of the earth at the equator is 24,902 miles, so the Trojans will have flown just 94 miles short of halfway around the world when the 2009 season is complete and their air miles are tallied.
Too bad the Trojans can't mark all those miles down for frequent flier points -- charter planes don't offer that program.
