Carr's son JR is in his first week of training camp at Tennessee, where he's competing for the Volunteers' starting long snapper role. JR, a freshman from South Torrance High, received several scholarship offers before choosing to attend Tennessee.
Rick Carr, who's also a detective for the Torrance Police Dept., has been the director of team security for 21 years. He can often be seen shadowing Coach Carroll on the sidelines before, during and after games each fall.
