Thoughts from Friday's practice, through the eyes of USCRipsIt...
- Closing out their penultimate day of training camp, the Trojans glided through a situational-based workout on an oddly cool and gray afternoon on Howard Jones Field. Matt Barkley had yet another impressive and relaxed day, with his highlight play coming on a perfectly read and exceptionally thrown 97-yard touchdown-scoring bomb to wideout Travon Patterson during team period.
- Aaron Corp participated in 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 periods again on Friday, completing 4-of-6 throws and one touchdown against the second-unit defense during the latter drills.
- Against the first-team defense in 7-on-7 period, Matt Barkley went 6-for-9 with a touchdown, though two of the incompletions were drops by receivers.
- During team period, tailback Curtis McNeal scampered for a slicing 22-yard touchdown, one of the best plays of the day. The run came just a few plays after McNeal powered up the middle and bulled through the umpire, who tumbled to the ground, bringing laughter to many of the players.
- Kicker Jordan Congdon made a 30-yard field goal to end the practice, while Joe Houston hit a 43-yarder with plenty of room to spare earlier in the day.
- Coach Carroll in the post-practice team huddle: "We only got one day to go. We better bring it tomorrow."
- With the Trojan Marching Band belting its tunes throughout the practice, Traveler standing in the end zone for some of the workout and cool temperatures, football season was definitely palpable Friday at Howard Jones Field.
