Thoughts from Tuesday's practice, through the eyes of USCRipsit...
- Following an abnormally average performance in Monday's scrimmage, the offense rebounded with an all-around strong workout that featured superb quarterback play and a potent ground game. The offense would've also claimed the overall practice victory if it wasn't for a controversial call by Coach Carroll on the final tie-breaking play of the day, when Carroll -- who doubles as the referee -- ruled Matt Barkley down just outside of the end zone on a QB sneak. The ruling gave the defense a 28-27 win, though the offensive players protested by singing the fight song while the defensive players chanted, "scoreboard!"
- One day after his subpar effort Monday, Matt Barkley bounced back Tuesday. During one segment of 11-on-11 drills, Barkley showed off his accurate arm when he hit wideout Brice Butler down the left sideline and then tossed a perfect deep ball to tailback Allen Bradford along the right sideline. Also, in a five-play 1st-and-10 competition, the Barkley-led offense converted on four of its five snaps.
- Aaron Corp participated in 1-on-1 drills and a 7-on-7 period against air, throwing sharply in his limited snaps. "He ripped the ball around," Coach Carroll said. "That's a huge step."
- Tailback Allen Bradford turned in yet another amazing practice, churning out several long runs and also showing off his receiving skills. One of his catches, on a screen play to the right, was made possible by an awesome downfield block by offensive guard Khaled Holmes.
- On one play in team period, tailback C.J. Gable had a nifty 5-yard touchdown run when he changed direction while hopping over the fallen lineman before landing in the end zone.
- Scouts from four NFL teams attended the workout.
