Thoughts from Saturday morning's practice, through the eyes of USCRipsIt...
- On an uncharacteristically gray summer morning, the Trojans breezed through a brief workmanlike practice, reviewing several plays from Friday's scrimmage as well as focusing on a few special situational drills. In the final team period, the offense outdueled the defense, winning by a surprising 19-11 margin.
- In three "backed-up" situational series from the 2-yard line, the Trojan offense was successful (obtaining two first downs in the drive) on two occasions, with Matt Barkley and Mitch Mustain each leading one winning drive.
- During a third-down situational period, the offense converted on 5-of-8 of their tries from various distances. Mitch Mustain's group went 3-for-3.
- Linebacker Shane Horton, less than 24 hours after his impressive performance in the scrimmage, intercepted a pass during 7-on-7 drills.
- Also during 7-on-7 period, Matt Barkley threw touchdowns to wideout Damian Williams and tight end Bryson Lloyd, along with several completions to receiver Ronald Johnson.
- Mitch Mustain and Ronald Johnson connected for a pretty 20-yard touchdown strike in the right corner of the endzone during team period.
- During 11-on-11 period, tight end Anthony McCoy made a stunning lunging catch while dragging his feet inbounds along the right sideline.
- Tailbacks Allen Bradford and Ahmed Mokhtar had the standout runs of the 30-play team period, with each finding a gaping hole and going about 15 yards.
