Every week, players get Sunday off from meetings, practice and workouts.
Coaches do not.
Sundays are hardly a day of rest for the coaching staff, which breaks down the previous game and then dives into the game plan and practice scripts for the coming week. While it's not the normal 14- to 16-hour schedule they work during the week, a Sunday still sees the coaches log much of the afternoon and evening in front of film or in the playbook.
It starts with a staff meeting at the beginning of the afternoon and continues with film breakdowns of the previous game for several hours before coaches turn their attention to the upcoming game plan. Yesterday, the coaches spent several hours examining the film from mock game as a whole staff and then as offensive and defensive staffs before devoting their full attention to San Jose State game week.
Ultimately, Sundays are key days for the weekly success of the team, as they're days that close out the previous week and start off the next.
