Thoughts from Thursday's practice, through the eyes of USCRipsIt...
- On the final Turnover Thursday of the spring, an athletic interception by nose guard Jurrell Casey on an Aaron Corp screen pass sealed the victory for the defense, which won three of the four turnover-themed workouts over the last month. Casey read the play perfectly, tipped the short throw to himself and hurtled upfield toward the end zone.
- Other than that one snap, the offense produced an impeccable performance, dominating the final 30-play team period to win 19-11 behind a fiery, hard-hitting effort from all phases. Tailback Marc Tyler logged several big runs and quarterbacks Aaron Corp and Matt Barkley coolly completed numerous impressive passes all over the field. Corp even sprinted for a 30-yard touchdown on a bootleg to cap off a wowing offensive output. "Somewhere after that turnover, this offense really got rolling," Coach Carroll said in the post-practice team huddle.
- Barkley had a pair of notably stunning deep balls Thursday, one to Brandon Carswell about 40 yards downfield with two defensive linemen closing in and the other to Brice Butler on a beautiful 25-yard fade into the end zone.
- On the final play of the day, kicker Jordan Congdon calmly hit a 39-yard field goal with all his teammates surrounding him and trying to distract him.
