John Robinson, one of USC's most popular and successful football coaches who guided the Trojans to the 1978 national championship and into 8 bowl games, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame at a gala dinner in New York City on Tuesday (Dec. 8).
He was part of the 18-member 2009 Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) class. He will next be enshrined into the Hall in ceremonies in the summer of 2010 in South Bend, Ind.
Robinson is the third USC head coach selected to the College Football Hall of Fame, joining Howard Jones and John McKay. He is the 36th Trojan, including 28 players, in the Hall. A Trojan has been elected into the Hall in 8 of the past 10 years.
