Saturday's USC-UCLA game will be getting a little appetizer tonight on Howard Jones Field.
The student equipment managers from the two programs will battle in a 6-on-6 touch football game tonight at 8:30 p.m., setting the stage for Saturday's matchup at the Coliseum, where all of today's competitors will become tireless workers.
Tonight's rivalry football game is one in a line of battles between various USC and UCLA student groups in the week leading up to the annual gridiron contest. The ROTC groups traditionally play each other, but perhaps the most notable rivalry is between the staffs of the two student newspapers, a violent touch football game adequately named, "the blood bowl." The Daily Trojan captured a 39-38 victory last Friday to clinch an undefeated decade for the USC squad against the crosstown paper. Records indicate the last time UCLA's Daily Bruin beat the Trojan representatives was in 1996.
