The bye week is a welcome sight for the Trojans.
Loads of rest and an extra few days of preparation for the UCLA game are adding up to be a boon at Heritage Hall this week. Today, the team has just meetings and is off from practice, with light practices scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday before heavier workouts on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. The players will then be off after the early-morning practice on Friday through meetings on Monday afternoon, more than three restful days away from football before diving into UCLA game week.
The USC roster has been depleted by injuries, both big and small, so the extra rest and lighter practices should help greatly in shortening the length of the injury report by the time the UCLA game prep kicks into fifth gear next Monday. Several banged-up players -- wideout Damian Williams, tight end Anthony McCoy, linebacker Malcolm Smith, defensive end Everson Griffen and linebacker Michael Morgan, among others -- should be a lot healthier come Nov. 28 at the Coliseum.
And of course, the bye is affording the Trojans extra time to get their football right and get back on track without having the burden of a normal game week.
