Turnover Wednesdays also feature a big emphasis on third downs, and the Trojan offense, admittedly, needs work in that category. So far this season, USC's well-publicized struggles on third downs have resulted in a mere 32 percent conversion rate.
Obviously, improvement is a major goal, but it doesn't start on Saturday at the Coliseum against Stanford -- it starts today on the practice field against the USC defense. And to give the offense more chances to improve, coaches are putting in 100 percent more third-down plays during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills during today's practice, going from 10 third-down situational snaps to 20.
"We get better by how we practice today and tomorrow," Carroll told his players during this afternoon's team meeting.
