Thoughts from Monday's practice, through the eyes of USCRipsIt...
- A hard-hitting, pads-thumping practice officially introduced the Trojans to UCLA game week, with the coaches and players feeding off the heavy contact to create a neat buzz on a cool night on Howard Jones Field. "I liked the way we brought it today," Coach Carroll said in the post-practice team huddle. "There was some nice hitting going on."
- The players were coming off a more than 72-hour break from football, and Carroll said he noticed the difference, especially in the quarterbacks' arms. "I thought you could see a little pace in the football," he said.
- Matt Barkley was a crisp 8-for-10 during 7-on-7 period.
- In just his third week at a new position, linebacker Devon Kennard was one of the standout players in Monday's workout, as he flew around making big-time hits and tackles throughout the workout. "He kind of took over practice today," Carroll said.
- Sidelined since the Arizona State game, wideout Damian Williams (ankle) sat out again Monday but is slated to return in "limited fashion" for Tuesday's practice, Carroll said.
- Defensive end Everson Griffen (toe) participated in Monday's entire workout and is "full go" for Saturday, Carroll said.
- Andrew McMahon, the lead singer of Jack Mannequin who fought through leukemia and is now in full remission, attended practice.
