A big fuss is being made that the Trojans didn't budge in the polls after a dominant 30-3 road win over a ranked foe during the weekend.
News flash: It. Doesn't. Matter.
With two months left in the season, the polls and rankings don't mean a thing to USC since they have absolutely no bearing on how the Trojans practice, watch film or play on Saturdays. It wouldn't have mattered if the Trojans rose up or dropped down in the polls after this weekend, since the only place the rankings carry any weight is where it has no impact on the team -- in the newspapers and on TV.
The one and only time the polls have any influence on the Trojans is after the regular season, when the final BCS ranking come out and determine where USC will be playing its bowl game. Until then, they don't matter one bit.
So remember that it's Oct. 5 and not Dec. 5 -- and know that the polls don't mean anything until then.
