While the Trojans showed marked improvement in two key areas needing it -- penalties and third downs -- during Saturday's game, they're still not satisfied.
USC recorded only five penalties, a major decrease from the 13 it racked up the previous week, but the coaches are clamoring for perfection.
"It's about attention to detail," Coach Carroll said this afternoon. "It's an area we can continue to improve."
And on third downs Saturday, the Trojans converted 40 percent of their opportunities (6-for-15), a big jump from the 25 percent rate they were hitting during the season's first four games.
"It's good, but we can get way better," Carroll said. "That was really the only phase of our offense that wasn't cooking."
