Thoughts from Thursday's practice, through the eyes of USCRipsIt...
- A lively final full-speed workout of the week -- complete with exceptionally sharp play by the offense -- ended with an outburst of joyous energy, providing the perfect transition into the final 48 hours of game week preparation. While Coach Carroll gave his speech in the post-practice team huddle, the players spontaneously broke out in a reenactment of the "Oh my Lord" scene from "Glory" for several minutes as Carroll wrapped up his address. Smiles covered the faces of all Trojans while walking off the field toward their last stage of game prep, which starts Friday afternoon.
- As mentioned, the first-team offense had a day to remember, appearing remarkably on-the-money during service team period before producing a flawless 4-0 victory in the final team period.
- Fullback Stanley Havili is likely out for Saturday's game. "It doesn't look like he's going to make it," Carroll said.
- Defensive lineman Christian Tupou (knee) will play and wideout David Ausberry (calf strain) is doubtful for the game, Carroll said.
- Carroll announced wideout Ronald Johnson will start at wideout on Saturday.
- The Trojan special teams got extra focus, as is the norm for Thursday workouts.
- Major League Baseball player Sean Casey, known as "the Mayor," attended practice.
