Thoughts from Monday's practice, through the eyes of USCRipsIt...
- Two Trojans are well on their way to returning for Saturday's game at Notre Dame. Wideout Ronald Johnson (broken collarbone) and defensive end Armond Armstead (broken foot) participated heavily in Monday's half-pads practice, and Coach Carroll said both were on track to play against the Irish this weekend.
- With a nifty slicing run off tackle by tailback C.J. Gable in sudden death, the offense captured an 11-10 overall practice victory during the final team period.
- Safety Drew McAllister had yet another interception during practice, this time during team period on a pass tipped into the air by linebacker Jarvis Jones.
- Kicker Jake Harfman nailed a 53-yard field goal during special teams period.
- Coach Carroll, in the post-practice team huddle: "Let's make sure we're battling all week long so we can make ourselves great and have an awesome weekend."
- Mitch Mustain took most of the second-team reps, and Coach Carroll acknowledged that the junior is "a little bit ahead" of fellow backup quarterback Aaron Corp for the No. 2 role behind starter Matt Barkley. "The competition stays open," Carroll said.
- Cornerback Brian Baucham, out since a motorcycle accident on Sept. 17, took part in a healthy portion of practice Monday and appeared to be back to nearly full speed. "If he's OK, he's going to keep going," Carroll said. "I think he's going to be fine [for Saturday]."
