
USC Gets Win Over ASU

The USC men's swimming and diving team finished the weekend off strong with a win over ASU, 130-67 on Saturday (Nov. 15) at McDonald's Swim Stadium. Arizona also competed in the meet, however it was only scored between USC and ASU.
The Trojans swept the 1000y free with junior Evan Marcus finishing first (9:26.76), sophomore Kevin Little in second (9:30.60) and sophomore Dillon Connolly rounding out the top three (9:32.63). Connolly also finished second (1:51.12) in the 200 y IM. Junior James Martin came in third (1:51.23) in the 200y IM. Connolly tallied another second place win in the 100y breast (55.58).
Junior Zoltan Povazsay came in second in the 200y free (1:39.06). In the 50 y free the Trojans turned out second and third place marks, with sophomore Jake Grosser in second (20.74) and sophomore Buddy Turner finishing third (20.81). Turner also turned out a third place performance in the 100y fly (50.10).
Sophomore Steven Starks placed second in the 1 m diving (341.71) and Harrison Jones came in third (308.92). On 3-meter, Jones was second (404.70) and Starks was third (363.89).
USC finished off the day with a time of 1:23.27 in the 200 y free relay, anchored by sophomore Andrew Schneider.
This win brings the team to 3-0 in dual meets. Next up for the Trojans is a trip to Seattle, Wash. for the Husky Invite (Dec. 4-6).
Women's Recap
The No. 11 Women of Troy beat ASU 167-132 on Saturday (Nov. 15) behind strong performances from senior Rebecca Soni and freshman Katinka Hosszu.
The Women of Troy started out the meet with a second place finish in the 200y medley relay with a time of 1:45.53.
Soni followed next with her first of two wins in the 1000y free (10:14.43). Freshman Katie Kiefer followed in third (10:37.60). Soni's next win came in the 200y breaststroke, where she finished in 2:14.58. Freshman Ania Kowalczyk also placed, coming in third (2:20.30)
Hosszu, who tallied three wins on the day, won the 200y free (1:48.87), which USC swept. Coming in second was senior Kristen Lahey (1:51.57) and sophomore Ellie Doran (1:54.18) was third. Hosszu's second victory was in the 200y butterfly (1:57.21). Junior Rachael Waller finished third (2:03.08). Hosszu's final win came in the 200 y IM (2:01.68).
In the 100y backstroke, junior Whitney Stephenson finished second (58.21) and sophomore Sophie Gosper came in third (59.06).
Senior Katy Houston pulled out a first place victory in the 100 y breast (1:03.57).
Freshman Tori Ishimatsu finished first (311.12) in the 3-meter diving competition and first in the 1-meter diving (321.75).
Junior Dina Hegazy finished first (2:02.82) in the 200y back and Stephenson came in third (2:03.84).
The Women of Troy finished one-two in the 500y free, with Doran in first (4:56.84) and sophomore Krissy Forelli coming in second (4:56.88).
USC is now 2-0 in dual meets. The Women of Troy will next travel to Seattle for the Husky Invitational (Dec. 4-6).
