Hello Alumni and Friends
Here is some updated information and questions from the swim and dive offices at the Kennedy Athletic Center here at USC. In an effort to keep you informed on the status of the team and the happenings on the inside, please take a few minutes to read and enjoy the latest swim team events.
1) If you'd like to receive the swim team's e-mails, let us know at: uscswimbill@aol.com and we'll add it to the master list immediately. In the future we'll be able to electronically communicate with respect to all the team events.
2) Our Eighty Years of Swimming at USC reunion was a blast! Over 200 Alumni and guests celebrated over dinner at Town And Gown where the action centered around stories of achievement and mischief while John Naber led the activities as the MC. In the years ahead we believe that more Alumni and friends will be made aware of events as we make an effort to communicate be email and improve our database. Thanks to all of you that made for a fun evening, and helped with additional contributions. We are looking forward to another event next year.
3) The University of Arizona and Arizona State dual meets are scheduled for the weekend of November 19th and 20th and are this years only home dual meets. We would appreciate the same alumni support that we experienced at the Reunion Dinner. The meets are scheduled for 1 PM on Friday and 2 PM on Saturday and it would be wonderful if you could take time to reintroduce yourself to the current team members at the conclusion of each meet. After the swimming we did in Texas this past weekend, there is little doubt about the kind of swims the team will put in against these Pac-10 rivals.
4) Our trip to Texas was a success and for the first time in many years our men's team hammered the Longhorns. They won all but one event against Texas and went 1-2 and even 1-2-3 in several. In the past the team has suffered against teams like Texas in the short relays and the sprint events, but not this year! Sophomore Sean Sussex defeated this summer's national champion from the Longhorns in the 100 freestyle and was second behind Trojan Richard Gospers in the 50 free. As usual the mile was a 1-2-3 sweep by Larsen Jensen, Tyler Storie and freshman Will Antisdale. All our events were solid and were led by Victor Bodrogi and Ous Mellouli who each won 3 events. The women swam just as well but had the sad luck to finish in second place by less then a tenth of a second in 5 different events. This led to a 50 point swing which was hard to overcome against the strong Texas women. Freshmen Rhi Jeffrey and Emily Geotsch got their college careers off to great starts though, winning the 200 free and 100 fly respectively. Senior Jo Fargus made sure to let everyone know that she still has another year to leave her mark, swimming 1:58.51 in the 200 back. The women also finished their meet on a high note by winning the final event, the 400 free relay. After a hard week of training we were all quite pleased by the results of our trip to Austin. The swimmers showed a lot of pride to step up and swim as fast as they did considering the time of the season that it is. This Trojan pride also showed itself in the conduct on the pool deck. According to Senior Captain Paul Fahey, "we have never been as excited and spirited as a team in my four years, it was simply awesome!"
5) As of November 8th- USC Men ranked #2 in the country behind Auburn, last year's NCAA champions, and the women are tied for 12th! Awesome start to what should be an awesome year.
6) Again, please provide us with any additional email addresses of interested alumni or requests for removal from this list. We promise not to send too many of these out but do believe that it will a great tool by which to stay connected.
Thanks and Fight On!
