Dec. 1, 2003
Nine Trojan football players, the most from any school since 1989, were selected to the 2003 All-Pac-10 first team.
Quarterback Matt Leinart was named the Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year (only the second sophomore to win that honor, along with Stanford's John Elway in 1980) and Pete Carroll was named Pac-10 Co-Coach of the Year along with Washington State's Bill Doba (USC's first coaching honoree since Larry Smith in 1988).
Besides Leinart, USC's first teamers were wide receiver Mike Williams, offensive tackle Jacob Rogers, center Norm Katnik, defensive end Kenechi Udeze, defensive tackles Shaun Cody and Mike Patterson, cornerback Will Poole and punter Tom Malone.
In 1989, USC had 12 first team picks.
Rogers, one of only four players to be a unanimous selection this year, made the first team for the second consecutive year.
USC's three defensive line picks were the most from any school since Washington State also had three in 1994.
Wide receiver Keary Colbert and linebacker Matt Grootegoed made the All-Pac-10 second team.
USC had eight honorable mention selectees: safeties Darnell Bing and Jason Leach, tailbacks Reggie Bush and LenDale White, offensive tackle Winston Justice, placekicker Ryan Killeen, and linebacker Melvin Simmons and Lofa Tatupu.
