LOS ANGELES--USC freshman defensive tackle Shaun Cody was named to the Freshman All-American first team by The Sporting News.
Joining Cody on TSN's Freshman All-American squad were a pair of redshirt freshmen Trojan teammates: defensive end Kenechi Udeze on the second team and linebacker Matt Grootegoed, who was a third teamer.
This season, Cody had 35 tackles, including 7 for losses of 33 yards (with 5 sacks for minus 26 yards, second most sacks on USC). Udeze had 29 tackles, including 8 for losses of 31 yards (with 3 sacks for minus 13 yards), a fumble recovery, 3 forced fumbles (tied for third in the Pac-10) and a deflection. Grootegoed had 32 tackles, including 8 for losses of 13 yards (with a 4-yard sack), a fumble recovery and 2 deflections.
Junior safety Troy Polamalu made The Sporting News' All-American third team (earlier, he was named an All-American first team pick by the Football Writers Association of America and an All-Pac-10 first teamer).
