LOS ANGELES--Four USC athletes--swimmers Bret Awbrey and Emily Ayers, baseballer Raul Lepe and soccer player Kaylee Whitfield--have been awarded Pac-10 Postgraduate Scholarships.
Each recipient will receive a $3,000 grant.
Awbrey and Ayers were co-captains of the Trojan men's and women's swimming teams, respectively. Awbrey, a four-time All-American, majored in industrial and systems engineering, while Ayers was a psychology major.
Lepe, also an industrial and systems engineering major, was a relief pitcher. Whitfield, a forward, majored in education.
To be eligible, each student-athlete must have an overall grade point average of 3.00, be in the final season of athletics eligibility, have performed with distinction as a member of a varsity team, intend to continue academic work as a full-time graduate student, and have behaved both on and off the field in an exemplary manner.
The four Trojan recipients are among 38 Pac-10 student-athletes selected by their institutions to receive a Pac-10 Postgraduate Scholarship.
