Complete Second Day Top 10 Team Scores: Women- BYU 23, Arkansas and Nebraska 18, Houston 16, UCLA 15, California 11, SMU 10, Texas 10, Wyoming 10, Akron 10, USC 3 (22nd tie). Men- Stanford 31, Auburn 21, SMU 18, LSU 16, Georgia 13, Wyoming 10, Ole Miss 10, Idaho 10, Texas A&M 9, Arizona State and Boise State 8, USC 4 (18th tie). (There were eight finals on Thursday ? men (4)- hammer, pole vault, shot put, 10,000m, women (4) ?discus, high jump, long jump, heptathlon).
USC Women
Field Events
Discus- Sophomore Cynthia Ademiluyi finished 14th in the discus with a mark of 163-5.
Track Events
100m- Sophomore Angela Williams, the defending NCAA 100m champion, ran 11.25 (second-fastest in all heats) to win the first prelim. She moves on to the semifinals tomorrow (the finals are on Saturday).
400m- Junior Malika Edmonson finished 18th in the 400m with a time of 54.11.
1500m- Senior Anna Lopaciuch, the Pac-10 1500m champ, qualified for the 1500m final (to be held on Saturday) with a time of 4:20.54-sixth fastest of the day.
4X400m relay- The Women of Troy relay squad of Brigita Langerholc, Malika Edmonson, Carla Estes and Kinshasa Davis finished fourth in heat one in 3:32.25 (sixth-fastest overall) to qualify for the finals to be held on Saturday.
Looking ahead to Friday for the Women of Troy:
This will be a key points day for USC, as they will try to build momentum heading into Saturday. USC's 4X100m relay squad will look to score some vital points, with their main competitors being the women from LSU. Senior All-American Natasha Danvers will try to improve upon her fourth-place NCAA finish in 1999 and junior All-American Brigita Langerholc enters the 800m final as the prohibitive favorite. Cynthia Ademiluyi will try to pick up some surprise points in the shot put. Angela Williams and Kinshasa Davis run in the 100m and 200m semifinals, respectively.
USC Men
Field Events
Hammer- Junior Norbert Horvath, the 1999 NCAA runner-up in the hammer, again garnered All-American honors by finishing fifth with a season-best mark of 231-11. Senior Dagan Massey finished 14th with a mark of 199-2. The Trojans picked up four points in this event.
Shot Put- Sophomore Van Mounts finished 15th in the shot with a mark of 58-5 _.
Pole Vault- Junior Denis Kholev, who placed seventh at the NCAA meet in 1999, finished 12th with a height of 16-10 _.
Track Events
100m- Sophomore Sultan McCullough, the 1999 Pac-10 100m champ, ran 10.26 to finish fourth in heat one and advance to the semifinals on Friday. The 100m finals are on Saturday.
110m HH- Freshman Ryan Wilson, the Pac-10 110m HH champ, just missed advancing to the semifinals of the 110m HH. He ran 13.994, just a shade behind the final qualifier's 13.991.
4X400 relay- USC's relay squad of Leroy Jordan, Vince Williams, Felix Sanchez and Andre Ammons ran a season-high 3:03.31 (sixth-best in USC history) to finish third in heat one (fifth-fastest overall) and advance to the finals to be held on Saturday.
Looking ahead to Friday for the USC men:
Brothers Kedjeloba and Djeke Mambo will attempt to salvage some points for USC in the triple jump, while the men's 4X100m relay will participate in the finals of that event. Senior Felix Sanchez will be competing for the NCAA 400m hurdles championships (he owns the nation's best time at 48.86), while Sultan McCullough looks to advance into the finals of the 100m.
