Women's Tennis Suffers 5-1 Loss At Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. -- USC women's tennis closed out the regular season with a 5-1 loss at the hands of fourth-ranked Cal, this afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Center in Berkeley. The Women of Troy fall to 15-8 overall and 4-4 in the Pac-10, ensuring a fourth place conference finish.
The Bears dominated singles play, taking five of six matches to assure the Cal victory. USC's only win came at the No. 5 position as the Trojans' Anita Loyola posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Morisa Yang. The win marked Loyola's fourth straight. Throughout singles play, USC dropped four in straight sets, while Kara Warkentin pushed Anita Kurimay into a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 before enduring a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 defeat.
No doubles matches were played as the outcome of the match was already decided.
The Women of Troy return to action next week (April 27-30) at the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif.
