LOS ANGELES - Five USC football players--including wide receiver R. Jay Soward in the first round--were selected in the 2000 NFL draft.
Only five other schools had more played chosen (Tennessee, Florida State, Michigan State, Michigan and Ohio State) this year.
Soward was picked by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the 29th choice of the opening round.
In the second round, offensive tackle Travis Claridge went to the Atlanta Falcons (the 37th pick overall).
A pair of Trojans went in the fifth round: wide receiver Windrell Hayes to the New York Jets and running back Chad Morton to the New Orleans Saints.
Defensive back David Gibson was Troy's final selection, in the sixth round to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Soward was USC's 60th first rounder, more than any other school. Overall, USC has had 396 NFL draft picks.
