Kelly Sets World Junior Record

Los Angeles-- - USC freshman sprinter Kareem Kelly set a new world junior record in the 50-meter dash last month, according to the latest edition of World Junior Athletic News, a publication that follows track competition by the under-20 age group.
Kelly's time of 5.67 was run on Feb. 19 at the Los Angeles Indoor Invitational held at the Sports Arena. It was the USC track debut for Kelly, who doubles as a receiver on the Trojan football team (he was the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 1999).
Kelly's record is the latest in a line of junior track superlatives for USC. Sultan McCullough and Angela Williams ran the fastest 100-meters times in the world (10.17 and 11.04, respectively) for juniors in 1999.
