USC freshman Angela Williams ran 11.16 in the 100m finals on Sunday (July 25) to capture the silver medal and junior Felix Sanchez ran the second-fastest 400m hurdle time in Trojan history on Wednesday (July 28) at the Pan-American Games in Winnepeg, Manitoba, Canada, being held July 22-August 8.
Williams, the defending NCAA 100m champion, overcame a sore hamstring to take second to the Bahamas' Chandra Sturrup (11.10) . She also ran 11.52 to place second in her semi-final heat. Fellow Trojan Torrie Edwards ran 11.70 in her heat, but failed to qualify for the finals.
Sanchez, running for the Dominican Republic, finished fourth with a time of 48.60 - just missing Tom Andrews' USC record of 48.55 set in 1976. Sanchez first shattered his previous personal-best time of 49.49 by running 48.83 in the semi-finals, good for third all-time on the USC charts
Eronildes Araujo of Brazil ran 48.23 to win the gold, while Eric Thomas (48.40) of the United States took the silver.
