LOS ANGELES - The USC football team will play Texas Christian in the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, on Dec. 31, it was announced on Sunday.
The game starts at 12:15 p.m. (Mountain time) and will be televised by CBS.
USC went 8-4 in the regular season and tied for third in the Pac-10 at 5-3.
TCU went 6-5 and tied for fifth in the Mountain Division of the Western Athletic Conference at 4-4. It will be first bowl appearance for the Horned Frogs since a 1994 Independence Bowl bid.
"We're looking forward to playing in the Sun Bowl as a reward for our players' hard work this season," USC Athletic Director Mike Garrett said. "The extra game and practice time will also give our young team a big boost for next year."
"We are delighted to be playing in the Sun Bowl," USC Coach Paul Hackett said. "It gives us a great opportunity to play in a great bowl game and have some more practice sessions, which is exactly what a youg team like ours needs.
"The people in El Paso have always been wonderful and welcome you with open arms. And I always like going to a bowl that I'm undefeated in."
Hackett served as Pittsburgh's head coach in the Panthers' 31-28 victory over Texas A&M in 1989 when it was known as the John Hancock Bowl.
The Trojans last played in El Paso on Dec. 31, 1990 in the John Hancock Bowl. The Trojans lost to Michigan State, 17-16.
