LOS ANGELES -- Four stations have joined the USC Football Radio Network, including KCTD-AM 1540 in Los Angeles.
The other stations are KGEO-AM 1230 in Bakersfield, KYNO-AM 1300 in Fresno and KDEF-AM 1150 in Albuquerque, N.M. They'll join 77,000-watt flagship station XTRA-AM Sports 690, which begins the first year of a 3-year contract broadcasting Trojan football games.
"This network provides great reach for our radio package," said USC athletic director Mike Garrett. "In particular, the addition of KCTD in Los Angeles gives USC football an incredibly strong signal coverage throughout Southern California, from the Mexican border to Santa Barbara and many points east."
The XTRA broadcasts also can be heard globally as a cybercast on www.usctrojans.com.
The Trojan broadcasts include 1-hour USC pre- and post-game shows sandwiched by 1-hour college football pre- and post-game shows. Long-time XTRA sports talk host Lee Hamilton (play-by-play), former USC All-American quarterback Paul McDonald (analyst) and ex-USC star wide receiver John Jackson (sideline) will be mikeside during the games. Former Trojan All-American defensive tackle Tim Ryan and current XTRA talk show host John Fricke will handle the pre- and post- game duties.
USC opens its 1998 season this Sunday (Aug. 30) in the Pigskin Classic against Purdue in the Coliseum.
