Women's Track and Field Dominates at Trojan Invitational

LOS ANGELES -- The USC men's and women's track and field teams each defeated all five teams they faced at the Trojan Invitational, which was held at USC's Cromwell Track and Field Stadium on Sunday (March 8). The Trojan men's team won the six-way meet, scoring 188 points to California's 164, Cal State Bakersfield's 67, UC Irvine's 54, Cal State Fullerton's 48 and Cal Poly Pomona's 28.
The Women of Troy won the six-way meet, scoring 185 points to San Diego State's 130, California's 102, UC Irvine's 54, Cal Poly Pomona's 40 and Cal State Bakersfield's 34.
USC's women also went 4-0 in the dual meets (USC 90, Cal 41; USC 99, UC Irvine 27; USC 100, Cal State Bakersfield 31; USC 86, San Diego State 59). The rest of the dual meet scores were -- Cal 86, UC Irvine 46; Cal 92, Cal State Bakersfield 42; San Diego State 93, Cal 57; UC Irvine 71, Cal State Bakersfield 39; San Diego State 107, UC Irvine 36; San Diego State 110, Cal State Bakersfield 24.
Women of Troy junior sprinter Torri Edwards was the star of the meet, winning both the 100- and 200-meters in impressive fashion. Edwards blazed to victory in the 100-meters in a personal-best time of 11.10w (+3.70 wind) and took the 200-meter title in 23.34cw (converted from 23.1 -- with a +2.31 wind). She also anchored USC's winning 400-meter relay team, which ran 44.65.
Six new additions to the Trojan track and field program made winning debuts at Cromwell Field. Women of Troy freshman Carla Estes took the 400-meter title in 53.7h, while fellow freshman Brigita Langerholc won the 800-meters with a time of 2:08.67 (eighth fastest in Women of Troy history). On the men's side, two of Troys heralded junior college transfers each won their events, with Felix Sanchez winning the 400-meter hurdles in 51.30 and Charles Lee taking the 200-meters in 21.19. And two Trojan freshmen won individual events in the field as Dennis Kholev won the pole vault at 17-0 and Daniel Haag took the javelin with a toss of 182-10 (55.74).
