USC Has Two Former Greats Make SCIVBHOF 2018 Class: Pat Powers, Ron Lang
Men's Volleyball
Posted: January 03, 2018
Two former USC All-American players--1984 Olympic gold medalist and former NCAA champion Pat Powers and 1964 Olympian Ron Lang—are among the 15-member 2018 Southern California Indoor Volleyball Hall of Fame (SCIVBHOF) second induction class, with ceremonies set for May 6 at Anaheim's Hwy 39 Event Center.

Powers was a two-time (1979-80) All-American at USC, helping the Trojans to the 1980 NCAA championship and a runner-up finish in 1979.  He then was on the USA's 1984 gold medal-winning Olympic team.  He was named to Volleyball Magazine's All-Century first team and All-Time American Indoors first team.  He later was USC's head coach (1997-2002).

Lang, who attended USC before the school fielded a varsity team, was a member of the USA's first Olympic men's volleyball team in 1964.  He was a nine-time U.S. All-American and played on three U.S. Open National Championship teams.  He also won 45 pro beach titles.  He was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame as both an indoor and beach player.

USC had five selections in Year One to go with the two honorees in 2018 (Bios at website at www.socalindoorvolleyballhof.com).

"We are very excited for our second SCIVBHOF induction class because of the volleyball history of the honorees going from the 1940s to present time," said Mike Gallups, President of the SCIVBHOF.  "The selections for the first two years were definitely a challenge for our committee, but when you look at the Hall of Fame backgrounds, it is another amazing group that has done so much for the indoor game throughout Southern California, the USA and the World."
