LOS ANGELES – USC Women's Soccer Head Coach Keidane McAlpine announced the addition of two more transfers as part of the Trojans' top-ranked recruiting class.
Jessie Holmes comes to the Trojans from Florida and Megan McCashland is USC's second transfer this offseason from Notre Dame. They join transfers Natalie Jacobs (Notre Dame) and Alea Hyatt (North Carolina), along with a number of still-to-be announced incoming freshmen as part of a highly touted class of newcomers to the USC program.
Jessie Holmes – 5'4" – Defender – Graduate Transfer – Los Gatos, Calif. – Los Gatos HS/Florida – De Anza Force
Holmes has persevered through several leg injuries to appear in seven matches during her time at Florida, despite missing the better part of two seasons, and graduated this spring with a B.S. in Biological Engineering. She was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll each of the four years she was at Florida and as a senior was recognized with the Leadership and Champion of Character awards. Holmes helped the Gators to both a regular season and SEC Tournament Championship during her time there and was a part of the 2014 and 2018 Elite 8 squads in Gainesville.
As a prep standout, Holmes was a member of Los Gatos HS teams that captured De Anza Division Championships in 2013 and 2014, earning All-SCVAL first team honors in 2013. She played her club soccer with the De Anza Force, winning an ECNL Championship in 2014 and finishing as runners-up in 2013. Holmes was a four-time member of the Cal North '96 state and Region IV Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams.
Holmes on why she chose USC: "Since I was a little girl I have always dreamed about attending and playing for USC. USC provides an amazing platform to continue my development as a person, as a student, and as an athlete within one of the nation's top athletic programs. Keidane and his staff provide me the opportunity to once again play for one of the best among NCAA's coaches. It also helps that USC offers one of finest Environmental Engineering Master's Programs in the country. Fight On!"
McAlpine on Holmes: "She's a woman you have to love being a part of your program. When you look at her story, and her injuries, and the fight that she has had in terms of continuing her career, it's amazing. I'm pleased to add her to the team and give us some depth on our back line. I'm also excited about the type of person she is, and what she's going to bring in terms of energy and commitment to the culture of our team."
Megan McCashland – 5'7" – Midfielder – Graduate Transfer – Lincoln, Neb. – Lincoln Southwest HS/Notre Dame – Gretna SC
McCashland played each of the last three seasons for Notre Dame after sitting out her freshman year with an injury, appearing in a total of 35 games. She recorded two goals during her junior season, netting game-winners against Louisville and Wake Forest. McCashland earned All-ACC Academic Honor Roll recognition each of her four seasons with the Irish and was a two-time Monogram Award winner.
McCashland earned plenty of recognition during her prep and club careers, garnering All-State honors in 2010, 2011 and 2012. She helped lead Lincoln Southwest HS to a District Championship in 2012 and to a Heartland Conference title in 2011, earning All-Conference honors each time. McCashland was a member of the Region II ODP Team as a captain since 2012 and won Nebraska State Championships with both Gretna SC and Toro SC. She also spent one season as a discovery player for FC Dallas in 2013-14.
McCashland on why she chose USC: "USC will give me the opportunity to play for a national championship caliber team as I work towards a Masters of Science in finance."
McAlpine on McCashland: "I'm very excited to have Megan join our team. She's a hard-working, rugged midfielder, who can win balls and tackle. She also is a skilled passer with a motor to get up and down the field. I expect to get great production for our squad with her versatility."
