Gabby Smith to Compete in NCAA Singles Tournament

Senior and co-captain Gabby Smith has secured placement in the 2018 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Tournament where she will have the opportunity to compete for an NCAA individual title. The NCAA Individual Championships will take place in Winston-Salem, N.C. at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex from May 23-28. The Individual Championships will begin the day after the NCAA Team Championships conclude on May 22.
Gabby Smith, the No. 40 singles player in the nation, will compete in her second NCAA Singles Tournament. Last year, she played in the 2017 NCAA Singles Draw where she lost in the Second Round.
Smith is currently 23-13 on the season and riding a four-match winning streak. She is the only Trojan on the roster to have collected at least 20 wins. In every match she has played in, Smith has competed from the No. 1 singles position. She has clinched three matches this year: against Oklahoma, Washington and Arizona.
Last week, Smith was named the 2018 Pac-12 Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Majoring in accounting, Smith boasts a 3.493 cumulative GPA. She was accepted into BYU's Accountancy – Tax master's program and will begin her graduate studies in the fall. Smith is also USC's female recipient of the Pac-12 Postgraduate Scholarship.
All matches in the individual competitions will be best two out of three sets with no-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (winning by two points) utilized at six-games-all.
