22nd-year head coach has won 3 NCAA team titles, guided Trojans to 5 NCAA individual crowns.
USC 22nd-year Women's Golf Head Coach Andrea Gaston, the Troy's Hall of Fame Coach who has guided the Trojans to three national championships, five NCAA individual crowns, four conference titles and 12 straight NCAA top 5 finishes, has had her contract extended through the 2021-22 season.
Gaston has done one of her best coaching jobs of her career this season, overcoming the departure of a pair of All-Americans to the professional ranks following the fall season to lead a team of four freshmen and three sophomores – six newcomers in all – to an NCAA-record 21st straight NCAA Championships final.
Her leadership and coaching acumen put to the test, Gaston successfully re-loaded a roster that won three spring tournaments among six top 3 finishes as the Trojans are now preparing for a run at the NCAA Championships that starts Friday in Stillwater, Okla.
"Andrea is doing a very good job at USC and has been for many years," USC Athletic Director Lynn Swann said. "She's had a great year with a very young team this season and we anticipate that same kind of performance over the next number of years. She feels good about the job and we're excited to see her continue to lead one of the top programs in the country."
The Trojans have been among the winningest programs in the country the past five-plus seasons, capturing nearly 50% of their tournaments with 35 titles in 71 full-team events since the start of the 2012-13 season. In addition to the five wins this season, the Trojans won 3 times in the 2017 season, six times in 2016, five times in 2015, nine in 2014 and seven in 2013. USC players have also finished first a combined 30 times since the start of the 2010-11 season, including two NCAA individual titles.
In addition to taking USC to NCAA titles in 2003, 2008 and 2013, the Trojans have four second-place finishes, 12 in the top 4 and 15 in the top 5 under Gaston.
Gaston, inducted into the WGCA Hall of Fame in 2010, has coached four NCAA Players of the Year, five Pac-12 Golfers of the Year, three Honda Sports Award winners and has been tabbed WGCA and Pac-12 Coach of the Year three times apiece
Additionally, 22 of her golfers have earned a combined 49 All-American honors and the Trojans have totaled 76 All-Pac-12 honors under Gaston as well. She has totaled a remarkable 63 team wins in her tenure as USC's head coach and her golfers have posted 55 first-place finishes.
