April 28, 2018 | Women's Rowing, Features
SAN PEDRO, Calif.--The No. 12 ranked USC women's rowing team defeated UCLA 5-2 in their annual dual meet on Saturday (April 28). This victory over the Bruins extends USC's winning streak over UCLA to 17-0 all-time.
"We had a beautiful day for racing on the port," said head coach Josh Adam. "I want to thank UCLA, the support staff, the coaches, the volunteers and all the fans for making the event great. The USC-UCLA Dual is always a great highlight of the season for us . Each boat category was excited to execute what they had been working on in practice this week, and we did that very well. We are excited to jump back into training next week as we look forward to the Pac-12 Championship."
For a full set of boatings and final times, see below.
Racing began shortly after it's scheduled time due to traffic out on the barge. In addition, both the Trojan and Bruin boats had to navigate through a hard outgoing tide.
The dual was scored with the following system: the Varsity Eight race was worth three points, the Second Varsity Eight race was worth two points and the Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight were each worth one point.
The Varsity Eight hit the water first and defeated UCLA's boat by a decisive 13 seconds. USC's final time of 7:15.6 gave them the first three points of the day.
The Second Varsity Eight race followed as the Trojans placed first with a 7:30.8 time to claim another two points. USC held a 5-0 advantage in the dual after two races.
UCLA's Varsity Four defeated the Trojans in their race to put a point on the board for the Bruins. USC crossed the finish line with a time of 8:39.2 compared to UCLA's 8:25.2.
The Third Varsity Eight race would close out the day. The Bruins placed first with a time of 7:47.8, USC placed second with a 8:12.3 time and UCLA's novice boat crossed the finish line in third with a 8:25.5 time.
The Women of Troy will now prepare to travel to Sacramento, Calif. for the Pac-12 Championships on May 13.
