April 18, 2018 | Track & Field, Features
USC senior Kendall Ellis was named to the Bowerman Mid-Outdoor Watch List, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today (April 18). The Bowerman is awarded annually at the end of the track and field season to the most outstanding track and field athlete.
Ellis, who will open up in the 400m this week at the Mt. SAC Relays, is the USC record-holder in the event with a time of 50.00 set at the 2017 USA Track & Field Championships. She has won event titles in the 200m at the USC Power 5 Trailblazer Challenge and the USC Trojan Invitational this season, but her top-time in the event came at the Sun Angel Classic, where she ran a 22.91 into a headwind. The senior from Pembroke Pines, Florida, currently sits 12th on the collegiate descending order list in the 200m. Ellis also ran the second leg on the Trojan's 4x100m relay that ran a 43.11 at the Sun Angel Classic, the fifth-fastest in school history and third in the country.
Ellis won the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field women's 400m title by setting a USA indoor record with a time of 50.34. She broke the previous USA record of 50.46 set by Phyllis Francis in 2014. Ellis also anchored USC's winning 4x400m relay team which posted a time of 3:27.45, which is also the fifth-fastest time ever by a collegiate women's quartet. USC holds the record of 3:27.03 set last year at the NCAA Indoor Championships, also anchored by Ellis.
The next watch list will be announced on May 2.
