April 18, 2018 | Baseball, Features
LOS ANGELES – John Beller gave up one unearned run in eight innings of work and the USC bats powered out to an early 6-0 lead in a 6-1 win over Loyola Marymount on Wednesday evening.
In a game that had been rescheduled due to fog earlier in the year, the Trojans picked up the win to move to 18-15 on the year and drop LMU to 17-20 overall.
Dillon Paulson hit two home runs and Lars Nootbaar homered as well as USC was up 4-0 after three innings of play. Paulson hit a two-run shot in the first to jump start the Trojan offense and Nootbaar hit a two-run homer in the third. Paulson would add his second home run of the game and sixth of the season in the fifth inning. Kaleb Murphy also hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Beller struck out a career-high nine batters and walked just two, while only giving up two hits all game. The lone unearned run came in the eighth inning after an error put a runner on third and a sac fly scored him. Brian Gursky would toss a scoreless ninth to seal the win.
