The teams traded the lead four times on Saturday, with Washington using a four-run eighth inning to come up with the win. USC falls to 13-11 overall and 3-6 in Pac-12 play with the loss, while the Huskies move to 13-11 overall and 6-3 in conference action.
The Trojans jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, courtesy of a three-run shot by Dillon Paulson. Washington would score four runs in the next half inning, loading the bases and getting a two-run single from Mason Cerrillo.
After Lars Nootbaar tied the game on an RBI groundout in the fifth, Brandon Perez plated the go-ahead run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to put USC up 5-4. Once again Washington had an answer in the next half inning, tying the game on an RBI double by Willie MacIver. The Huskies would load the bases and plate four runs, all with two outs, in the eighth inning. Levi Jordan and Nick Kahle each had run-scoring singles in the frame.
After starter Austin Manning exited in the second inning, Chris Clarke came in to toss 5.2 relief innings, giving up one run on seven hits. Alex Hardy got the win in relief for Washington, throwing the final 2.2 innings for the visitors.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Perez was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
- Dillon Paulson's three-run homer was his team-leading fourth of the year. He also worked two walks.
- Clarke tossed 5.2 innings, giving up seven hits and one run, with four strikeouts and two walks.
