USC Wins 11 Events During Final Day Of Trojan Invitational

Freshman Brissett wins 2 individual titles
USC's men's and women's track and field teams combined to win 11 event during the final day at the Trojan Invitational today (March 17). Winning events today for the Trojans were Chanel Brissett (W-100m H, W-100m), Kendall Ellis (W-200m), Deanna Hill (W-400m), Breana Jemison (W-SP), Ricky Morgan Jr. (M-200m), Cassidy Palka (W-HJ), Nick Ponzio (M-SP), Madisen Richards (W-LJ), Earnest Sears (M-HJ) and the women's 4x100m relay.
- Breana Jemison was the first Trojan to compete and win, as she had a best mark in the women's shot put of 53-1.50 (16.19m). Jemison's throw moved her into seventh on USC's all-time shot put list.
- Madisen Richards won the women's long jump with a best leap of 19-11.75/6.09m (+1.5). Courtney Corrin finished second at 19-8.75/6.01m (+1.0) and Alexa Harmon-Thomas was third at 19-0.50/5.80m (+0.2).
- Jadon Joyner placed third in the men's long jump with a best leap of 22-5.25/6.84m (+0.2).
- Cassidy Palka won the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-7.00 (1.70m). Alexa Harmon-Thomas tied for third with a clearance of 5-5.00 (1.65m).
- The women's 4x100m relay "A-team" of Angie Annelus, Ky Westbrook, Deanna Hill and TeeTee Terry got the running portion of the meet in style by blazing to victory with a time of 43.49, just outside the Trojans' all-time top 10. It was an outstanding early season time. Last year, the winning time at the Trojan Invitational was 44.24. The "C-team" of Kayla Richardson, Kendall Ellis, Madisen Richards and Kaelin Roberts placed second with a time of 44.51. USC's "B-team" did not finish the race.
- The men's 4x100m "B-team" placed sixth with a time of 41.70 and the "A-team" had a faulty first pass and did not finish.
- In the women's 1-mile race, Mikaela Smith placed 15th with a time of 5:10.90, Madison Ricks was 18th at 5:27.31, Julia Bounds was 19th at 5:34.79 and Sydney Tullai was 21st at 5:56.87.
- In the John. L. West Men's 1-Mile Race, Robert Ford was second at 4:13.07 and Josh Zavala was sixth at 4:26.42.
- Nick Ponzio won the men's shot put with a best mark of 61-6.75 (18.76m).
- Chanel Brissett won the women's 100m hurdles with a wind-aided time of 13.10 (+3.1w). Lyndsey Lopes placed third in the hurdles with a time of 13.75 (+3.1w).
- Marquis Morris took second in the men's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.27 (-2.7w). He finished .01 seconds behind the winner and tumbled at the finish line.
- Deanna Hill ran her first open 400m race as a collegian and won with a time of 53.26. She won the event by more than two seconds.
- Chanel Brissett came back to run the women's 100m race and made it her second victory, finishing with a time of 11.75 (+0.0), just .04 seconds off her high school best. Madisen Richards placed fifth with a time of 12.14 (-1.5) and Courtney Corrin was 23rd with a time of 13.37 (-1.7).
- Christian Sourapas placed fourth in the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.72 (+0.8), while Nick Moore placed ninth with a time of 10.87 (+0.8) and Jadon Joyner took 18th with a time of 11.12 (+0.9).
- Michael Gonzalez placed fourth in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 16-4.75 (5.00m). Damiano Carrioli placed 10th with a clearance of 14-1.25 (4.30m).
- Earnest Sears won the men's high jump at 7-0.50 (2.15m). After he won the event, he went out at 7-2.50 (2.20m), narrowly missing on his first two attempts. He has cleared 7-feet in his first two collegiate outdoor meets, jumping a PR of 7-1 (2.16m) at the Beach Opener on March 3.
- In the women's 800m race, Amber Gore was 12th at 2:12.39, Chloe Berry 14th at 2:14.32, Kennedy Gillian 17th at 2:15.72, Rachel Glynn 23rd at 2:22.91 and Jennifer Daly 25th at 2:26.45.
- In the men's 800m race, Matthew Myrtue was third at 1:54.99, his best time as a collegian, and Joshua Zavala was eighth at 1:56.79.
- Shante Robinson placed fourth in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 59.66.
- Cameron Samuel took second in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 52.48, just off his high school best.
- Kendall Ellis won the women's 200m with a time of 23.10 (-1.3). TeeTee Terry took third in the 200m with a time of 23.31 (-1.3), Ky Westbrook was fourth at 23.44 (-1.3), Angie Annelus was fifth at 23.48 (-1.3), Anna Cockrell was sixth at 23.60 (-1.3), Kayla Richardson won her heat and was seventh overall at 24.01 (+1.1) and Kyla Richardson was ninth at 24.43 (+3.1w). Former USC hurdling star Jaide Stepter placed second with a time of 23.18 (-1.3).
- Ricky Morgan Jr. won the men's 200m race with a time of 20.92 (+1.6). Alexander Barnum took third in the 200m with a PR of 21.02 (+1.6), Christian Sourapas was 10th at 21.69 (+1.6), Nick Moore was 19th at 22.00 (+2.7w) and Tyler Rambo was 25th at 23.21 (+1.8).
- The women's 4x400m relay closed out the meet. USC's "A-team" of Anna Cockrell, TeeTee Terry, Shante Robinson and Kyla Richardson placed second with a time of 3:42.08. The "B-Team" of Kayla Richardson, Angie Annelus, Ky Westbrook and Dior Hall placed seventh with a time of 3:49.53.
