Carson Calls It A Career

Yesterday, former USC Heisman-winning QB Carson Palmer announced his retirement after 15 years in the NFL.
"Over the years, I've had teammates who decided to hang it up and I would ask them how they knew when it was time to walk away," Palmer wrote in an open letter. "The answer was almost always the same: You just know. For me that time is now. Why? Quite simply, I just know."
Palmer, who hails from Laguna Niguel, Calif., won the Heisman Trophy in 2002 after passing for 3,942 yards and 33 touchdowns. In total, Palmer amassed 11,818 yards and 72 touchdowns during his four seasons at USC.
After his Heisman-winning season, Palmer became the fifth Trojan to be selected No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft (tied for the most among any school). He spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals before spending two years with the Oakland Raiders. In 2013, he joined the Arizona Cardinals, where he spent the last five seasons of his career.
Palmer finishes his NFL career with 3,941 completions for 46,247 yards and 294 touchdowns with a passer rating of 87.9 and a completion percentage of 62.5. He ranks 11th in NFL history in completions and 12th in passing yards and touchdown passes. Palmer also made the Pro Bowl three times.
After he announced his retirement, figures from all walks of life expressed their appreciation for Palmer, including Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, Arizona senator John McCain, and Trojans like Matt Leinart, Matt Barkley and Nelson Agholor.
