USC opens the season against Western Michigan on September 2.
USC head coach Clay Helton and the Trojans will rightfully dismiss any preseason ranking as the work is all still to come, but the excitement around this team continues to build. Just like the preseason coaches' poll, USC will start the season ranked No. 4 in the AP Top 25.

The Trojans are only outranked by No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Florida State. USC finished last season at No. 3 in the AP Poll, the program's highest ranking to end a season since 2008.
To maintain or improve their ranking, the Trojans will need to navigate a schedule that includes three preseason Top 25 teams, No. 14 Stanford, No. 23 Texas and No. 24 Washington State. Plus, reigning Pac-12 champion Washington, which USC misses in the regular season comes in at No. 8, while opponents Utah and Notre Dame are second and third in the others receiving votes category along with Oregon, Colorado and UCLA.
