MPSF champions will open the 2017 tournament with an opening round game on Nov. 30.
Fresh off claiming an automatic bid into the National Collegiate Championship as the MPSF Tournament champion for the second straight season, the USC men's water polo team will start their push for a 13th straight NCAA final appearance with an opening round matchup on Nov. 30. That clash — as well as the semifinals and final — will be held at the Trojans' own Uytengsu Aquatics Center.Â
Gripping a 25-3 overall record after a powerful performance at the MPSF Tournament, the Trojans are locked in as one of eight teams in this year's NCAA field. UCLA (19-4) and California (20-3) picked up the top two seeds as at-large entries into the bracket and will await their respective semifinal opponents. The other six teams — USC, Pacific (19-5), Pomona-Pitzer (24-10), Harvard (23-7), George Washington (17-11) and UC Davis (22-6) — stand out as automatic bid winners as champions of their conferences.Â
The first set of opening round games will be played off-site on Nov. 25, with Pacific hosting Pomona-Pitzer and Harvard hosting George Washington. Those winners will advance to Los Angeles, playing out the next opening round games on Nov. 30 at Uytengsu Aquatics Center. The Trojans await the winner of the two East Coast teams that day in home waters.Â
On Dec. 2, semifinals will be played at 3 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. With a win on Nov. 30, the Trojans would line up against Cal in the 5:15 p.m. semi. The NCAA championship game is set for 3 p.m. on Dec. 3.
